AINUT Transplant Program

Aadil Institute of Nephrology Urology and Transplantation

Renal Transplant Program at AINUT is designed to offer quality transplant services to the patients. AINUT transplant coordinators work closely with the Nephrologists, Urologists, patient and their family members to select the ideal candidate for transplantation.

The Transplant team refers the case to the transplant coordinator who takes time to answer all/any questions of patient and prospective donors. We encourage all patients and donors to review Frequently Asked Questions and proceed only if they feel convinced to proceed.

The Transplant team conducts a thorough review of both patient and donor’s medical reports and makes necessary recommendation to Aadil Hospital’s Transplant Evaluation Committee. The Evaluation Committee if satisfied that the donation is Ethical then recommends the case to legal advisor for completion of formalities. Then the case is presented before PHOTA (Punjab Human Organ Transplant Authority for approval. This may take some time in the mean while the patient can be maintained on Hemodialysis/ Peritoneal dialysis.

On the day of surgery patient and prospective donor is prepared. In addition to being medically fit both patient and donor are expected to look forward positively towards surgery and early recovery.

An exhaustive checklist for operation is completed and reviewed before sending the patient and donor to the operating theaters. Standard Operating Procedures i.e., MSDS, ISO QMS are followed.

After the surgery the patient and donor remain in High Dependency Unit and vitals are monitored till they are stable enough to be shifted to the room. A specially trained team of HDU takes care of both to include: Nephrologist, Transplant Surgeon, Radiologist, Intensivist, Anesthetist, Neurologist, Nutritionist, Microbiologists/ Infection Control Nurse, Physician, Cardiologist, dedicated Medical officers, nurses and Para medical staff.

It is extremely important to maintain the HDU Environment Infection free since the patient is on immunosuppressive therapy. The laboratory tests are carried out to monitor the patient’s progress.

In the recovery phase only close family members are allowed to visit the patient. Precautions and lifestyle changes are highlighted once again for both the patient as well as the donor.

The patient and donor can be discharged from the hospital between 7 to 10 days post operatively. Some patients may need to stay longer because of their previous medical and surgical history.

The patients and donors are encouraged to follow up with the hospital and AINUT team on monthly basis for first six months and then as and required basis.

It is our endeavor to keep the transplantation program transparent and ethical. This we believe directly translates into results and patient satisfaction.
