Diseases of the thyroid gland can result in either production of too much (overactive thyroid disease or hyperthyroidism), too little (underactive thyroid disease or hypothyroidism) thyroid hormone, thyroid nodules, and/or goiter.
Other than presenting as a thyroid lump, the symptoms can include
Enlarged neck lymph nodes
Hoarseness of voice due to nerve invasion or airway
Swallowing difficulties.
At the clinic, patients will have their history reviewed and have their lump examine to confirm that it is a thyroid mass.
The Thyroid Clinic is set up with an ultrasound machine and fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) facility.
Blood test will usually be done of the thyroid function. These can be done as a one stop measure in order to make an accurate and rapid diagnosis of the problem.
