This form of anesthesia is used to numb a small part of your body, allowing you to remain fully alert, and is short- lived. Typically, local anesthetics are used for office procedures, such as dental work, skin biopsies or stitching a cut.
Some people experience temporary side effects from a local anesthetic, such as:
- Flushing, redness of the skin
- Small red or purple spots on the skin
- Swelling at the site of application
- Unusually warm skin
- Bruising, burning, pain, or bleeding at the site of application
- Itching skin
